Given the recessionary times we live in, it is to be expected that for those going to law, solicitors fees in what I would term commercial matters have been slow to fall into line with other professions. His Honour Mr. Justice Peter Kelly in a case of ESG Reinsurance measured and reduced the costs of a well know commercial law firm where the firm’s partner had pitched fees at a rate of in excess of their client. This is a welcome decison for clients’ ,individuals and companies should shop around as much as possible for value for money.

As a sole practitioner, I have always wondered why companies in particular resort to using larger firms especially where those firms do not even do their own advocacy and any solicitor is free to retain the best barristers.
